Why Do We 'lack' Wealth and Happiness
It is interesting to me that our species, the human being, seems to be lacking in so many areas. Obviously, wealth seems to be an issue for most people. Putting everything before our own happiness seems to be pretty high on the list as well. But what astounds me as I listen to people is the amount of blame that we pass around to each other.
I study 'mindset' a lot, I find it to be truly a struggle to understand why people are not better prepared for the 'unexpected' and why we fight reality. I have a saying that I like to use 'Reality Always Wins.'
Now what does that mean? I have spent a great deal of my life in the social service field so I have seen a lot of misguided down and out people. Quite frankly, I am amazed at how strong some of them are in continuing to fight and make something of themselves. However, the real amazement is the lack of any system that is geared towards education and real helpful techniques, not only for the misguided but for the masses as well. Yes, I was one of the many college graduates that spent over $40,000 and then had the maximum earning power of about $45,000 after 13 years with the same company.
In my quest and continued learning, I have found that the answers to 'happiness' and 'wealth' are no different now than they were 2000 years ago. The first issue to gain control of and quite honestly the only thing you can gain control over is your own happiness. If you are not happy with yourself than you are certainly not going to attract more happiness into your life.
Now I will be the first to tell you that being happy with oneself if pretty hard stuff, especially if you are hard on yourself and do not accept or allow mistakes or what my look like mistakes enter your life. If you could bottle self esteem you would be a multi-millionaire. So how do you look at yourself and 'be happy'.
Here is my short list of what I think happiness is to oneself:
1. Be as nice and honest a person you can be to yourself, first, and then to others. Basically realize that no one is perfect and neither are you, so get over yourself already you are going to make mistakes.
2. Mistakes are what greatest comes from. Everybody makes mistakes, the difference is what we do with our mistakes is what separates the 'happy' from the 'unhappy'. By the way, did you use those 'sticky notes', the little pieces of paper that you right notes on and stick it to things to remind us. Did you know that the glue used in 'sticky notes' was a mistake! Yes, it was actually designed to be a 'super' glue. Now there is an example of a mistake turning into to good if I ever saw one.
3. Nothing ever 'just happens', there is no such thing as luck. Now this is the hardest one to understand but the bottom line is, that we are responsible for everything we 'have' and 'don't have' in our lives today. Everything we have, good and bad we have asked for and have received.
Remember YOU are the result of a conscious thought, you just did not happen, your parents thought about having a baby, and you were conceived from thought. You are the manifestation of a thought, not an accident or something 'happened', a conscious thought.
Furthermore, everything hence has occurred in YOUR life from thought.. Not by chance or luck, it was first conceived from thought. Now instead of trying to disprove this, which is not possible, try to think of how thought can work for you and your life to bring more 'happiness' and 'wealth'. HINT: It starts with the 'thought.'
4. We have to 'do' and have a reason why we do what we do. Why should you spend the greater part of your life working in a job that you hate? Seriously, do you dread going to work, do you look forward to weekends and days off? Why? Why do we continue to do this. Primarily because we get so caught up in making sure we have the bills paid, food on the table etc. etc. Again where are YOU in that equation, I hope you are not miserable.
Folks do something you love for a living. If you can go to work, work hard, work smart and leave with a smile on your face and others around you see that. Happiness will indeed be yours.
I spent a number of years doing something I kind of liked and eventually disliked. Now I did learn from the situation a great deal, but to think of spending 50 years doing that work was a nightmare. Now I study and continue to find more and more happiness in my endeavors and I implore you that as well.
Thanks for spending a little time with me today, and please remember to keep dreaming and do not let anyone or anything in the way of those dreams.
